Description

Koishi Komeiji
(The Unknowable Sister)

Sister of Satori Komeiji

History

Koishi is the younger Komeiji, sister to Satori, and like her, also a satori. While Satori found her own ways to accept and cope with both the ups and downsides to her mind-reading ability, Koishi couldn't handle it. One day, through means she doesn't willingly discuss, she completely sealed her Third Eye, and "killed" the reason she felt feared and hated by others - in the process, sealing her own heart and feelings off from the world as well.

While this did work, and other people ceased to find her frightening, this changed her so much, it didn't mean anything to her at all. She became "static" in her new state, and unreceptive to attempts at opening her up again.

When Satori ordered her own pets to play with her sister, and even giving Koishi some to take care of herself, it only had a minimal affect - at times, she seemed almost to respond, and at others, as if she were only going through the motions. Only the encounter with the Heroines stirred her enough to feel interest and commonplace ambition. Not enough to truly open her heart again yet, but enough to stir it, and rouse long-forgotten parts and the first feeling of regret she's had in ages.

Personality

Koishi is at heart a lonely girl who mostly just wants to belong and be accepted. Ironically, in the process of doing the one thing she thought would give her this simple happiness, she completely closed herself off from it.

In the world she exists in now, she is utterly alone in a way no one else can truly comprehend. And the worst part is, she doesn't feel it - her obtaining a state of "highest happiness" as Buddhism puts it, gives her a perpetually carefree feeling that prevents her from realizing what she's truly done to herself. Her heart is shut tight even from herself, and buried deep in a sea of false contentedness.

So she wanders the world like a forgotten ghost that can occasionally be seen by others, leaving and returning home when she pleases, unheralded and unannounced, living according to mercurial whims, and doing as she pleases. She maintains worldly connections, but distantly and at arms length, though she still feels them - her pets, her sister, her home, links she still feels and keeps up, but not with the same investment.

Since she's usually cheery, her interactions with others are almost always with this face, regardless of circumstance - this can make her seem disturbing, lacking in tact and/or empathy and sympathy, or peculiarly detached at varying times. But she can also be a bit Mischievous to get sharp reactions and connections, but seldom to the level of a real prankster - she enjoys a good tease, and otherwise prefers to go along with others' jokes, even at her own expense, since embarrassment too is something she doesn't feel strongly from such things.

Within the Multiverse

After Gensokyo's access to the greater Multiverse, Koishi had a whole larger expanse to explore. Satori had even more trouble keeping in contact with her sister now, and Koishi would be spotted all across the Multiverse in various locations, even inexplicably showing up in places she doesn't belong. Her inherent ability to disguise herself from the majority of people through her manipulation of the subconscious being very useful in evading hostile forces all across the Multiverse, rarely experiencing conflict...and rarely engaging in it. In most scenarios, if she is thrust into conflict, she often chooses to leave instead of stick around and risk herself, even despite her power...it's often not worth the time and risk...

Powers and Abilities

Koishi possesses the power to Read and Manipulate the subconscious.

As a practical matter, Reading it means she can see the base instincts and impulses of others, but unlike Satori's ability, not words, thoughts and details, feelings, or desires - an excellent ability for protecting herself, and a near-useless one for understanding another creature's heart and needs, or communicating with someone who can't otherwise (like animals.)

Her ability to Manipulate it, however, is truly frightening. At its heart, this allows her to subtly play on others' capacity to Perceive and Recognize - without both, from another person's perspective, a thing simply doesn't exist on any level. Koishi mainly makes use of this to an extreme degree, to maintain a state of faux-Mu/Nirvana - a practical death of the "self". If she doesn't make her presence known to be acknowledged, both she, and any actions she commits, won't be recognized by others.

This gives her an invisibility that is more than perfect, allowing her to wander around unseen, unheard, and utterly unnoticed by all around her. It's not that others can't see her, but they literally can't perceive her or her actions' existence until she calls attention to herself to be recognized. Explanations for otherwise unexplainable phenomenon, are shifted onto the user's subconscious to fill in the gap of recognition.

Things she does that others could notice, won't be seen as the work of "some sneaky ninja person hiding around here," but instead shifted subconsciously to whatever other reasons the person might attribute them to - for example, she can eat another's food out from under them, and they will instead believe another in the room did it, they did it themselves before they knew it, etc.

Furthermore, even when recoginized, no creature save perhaps the Yama, can actually sense her as being "there" - you can see her, she's talking to you, she can even be touched, but has no "presence" or sense of self to be felt at all. Even her sister can't perceive her until she makes herself known, or detect/read her thoughts when she does.

So begins...

Spinning around in a circle as she walked down the streets of Wing City, Koishi Komeiji walked carelessly down the streets with her arms outstretched. Every now and then rather than walking she would turn around to let out a "Vrrrrm!" sound, mimicking a plane. On-lookers didn't bother her, mostly because of her lack of a 'presence'.

Koishi, being that she sealed off her power to read minds, can thus slip into obscurity and not be recognized by others. It wasn't that she was invisible, but rather their brain is unable to imprint her into their memory. Even those aside from her sister who were her friends had problems remembering her and thus had objects which help them remember her. She could, however, choose to be seen by people easier and make her presence known.

After fooling around a bit and dancing around, she eventually stopped by one of the buildings and leaning up against it, letting out a small sigh. She allowed herself to be seen by others, giggling and wiping sweat from her brow. "Woooo~w! What a day! I got a bunch of candy and everything~"

Above the atmosphere of Wing City, another large ship arrived once it located the signal of The Remembrance Of Truth. This ship, The Astral Halberd, had taken three weeks to locate the Black Templars missing marshal. "Captain Carnaelgaar, we have finally located the Black Templars missing ship. However it seems their orbital weaponry has been recently used. We are raising them on the vox channels." One of the crewman onboard the battle barge spoke directly to the captain. Excellent work brothers, it appears that our brothers in the Black Templars have managed to survive, praise the Emperor! However someone get me some information on that planet, it seems that the planet appears to have life on it." The captain spoke and the crewman complied with his request.

Once the crew of The Astral Halberd scanned the surface on the planet, Carnaelgaar seemed intrigued by the technology of the city. It appeared that the city was untouched by war, and it has many technological advancements. Perhaps the planet was ripe with an opportunity to search for valuable technology, hopefully even advanced medical facilities. "Prepare a Thunderhawk transport, I shall investigate the planet to see if it has anything of technological value." Carnaelgaar spoke and procceded from the bridge of the ship to the hanger where he boarded one of the hundreds of Thunderhawks each painted red with a symbol of a black raven with a blood drop in the middle of it.

It took a minute until a red ship was seen flying near the city buildings instead of the starport, once he was 8 stories off the ground the rear of the transport opened up as it hovered in place. "While I am gone, make sure our fellow chapter brothers are stocked with new supplies. They must be running low on ammunition but knowing that they prefer melee combat its better to give them medical supplies and food." Carnaelgaar spoke before jumping from the ship and landing on the streets below without so much as cracking the pavement below, his physic powers passively slowing his descent.

Leaning against the wall for a little bit, she had time to get settled and relaxed to the sounds around her. This made the whirring of a space ship up above particularly odd. She looked around, trying to find the source however once she found the source there was a guy in HUUUUUGE hulking armor floating down towards the ground. She stared, head tilted while she thought to herself...

Once he had landed, she began walking over to him with her hands behind her back, each step was swayed as she giggled to herself. Pulling out a piece of candy from the pocket and offering the lollipop in the large armored man's direction. "Excuuuse me~ Hungry?" She asked, tilting her head.

Carnaelgaar looked at his surroundings, the building were tall, the people were dressed in a multitude of clothing, and everyone appeared to be peaceful, almost as if they were never part of a long war. However soon something caught his attention, a small girl walked up to him and offered him a lollipop.

Now this was a very rare sight for him, the sight of a child. Most of the time he would see marching soldiers or many grown people wandering around, but the sight of a young child just brimming with happiness this made him gently smile underneath his helmet. This is one of the reasons why he continues to fight, to have a future where people no longer have to fear war. "Greeting young one." He spoke gently as he crouched down to appear a little less intimidating and took of his helmet alowing his face to be seen. It looked like the man was in his early 30's with long blonde hair despite being more than 500 year old. Once he took a look at the thing the young girl was offering him, he looked puzled. That was food? It looked like a stick was placed inside a ball and it looked so small that it could not possibly fill anyone up. Regardless he decided to accept the food from the girl. "Thank you for the food." He smiled and after studying the lollipop for a few second, unwrapped the piece of candy and placed it in his mouth.

Koishi blinked twice, staring at the man as he got down to her level almost, and removed the helmet he wore. It didn't intimidate her...she had seen plenty of things that were scary, and used to hear plenty of things in her head that were just as scary! Still, she offered that bright smile of hers that upheld her innocent appearance. He was smiling too! And smiling was always good!

"Yup yup! Don't call Koishi young one though, Koishi is Koishi! Not young." She nodded to herself at this information she imparted, and then giggled to herself. "Either way, Koishi has plenty more of those! And lots of other things...Koishi has been bored though! Lots of people don't want to play...weeeell...they're often busy. But anyways...!" Her 3rd person speech was something she was just used to doing...she couldn't even remember when it started. That, and what she talked about...it made her sound even younger than she looked.

Carnaelgaar chuckled a little bit at the girl. "Alright then Koishi, apologies for calling you young." He laughed and playfully pet her head. What he was doing was something that could only come in a dream for him and his other fellow brothers, but here he was smiling and playing around with this girl. He had decided to go to the planet to explore and gather new technology but here he was talking to this girl, regardless he was actually happy so he decided to enjoy this little slice of peace while he could.

"So, Koishi. You said you wanted to play right? Well it so happens that I am free for the moment. So what did you have in mind? What type of games do you want to play?" Carnaelgaar offered to play with this girl. He had no idea where to start so he might as well just pass the time until he came across something that catches his interest.

Koishi tilted her head to him, and grinned wide as she heard him apologize. "It's okay~" She replied rather quickly, her wide open green eyes staring at him. Once he mentioned what games she'd play, she had trouble thinking, grumbling and rubbing her chin as she tilted her head from side to side. "Uuuum....Well, Koishi doesn't really get to be around people other than her sister in general...maybe playing isn't required but...maybe just keep Koishi company? She doesn't get to talk to lots of people...so would you like to listen to Koishi?~" She asked this and giggled, swaying from side to side.

Carnaelgaar nodded when Koishi wanted company. "As you wish, I may not be the best of company but I will gladly listen to whatever you say. Oh my...apologies but I have not introduced myself yet, where are my manners? my name is Carnaelgaar. So if you just want to talk, how about we wander around the city while we talk? I am new around these parts and I would also like to see what this city has to offer." He replied, attaching his helmet to his waist.

"Carnaelgaar?" She asked, her head tilted as she blinked...that was an odd name, at least to her. Then again, she was from an eastern culture and most outside names were odd to her. Koishi did nod at the mention of roaming the city and she nodded ecstatically.

"Okay!~" She spun around excitedly, and reached out instinctively to grab for his hand to help him around. "Koishi knows how to walk around this place well! It's biiig...and scary sometimes. But, people don't see Koishi very often so she is okay here! But...there's lots of people selling stuff...like animals! OOOH! There was one that had a really fluffy tail and a scary mouth...a lion...?!"

Carnaelgaar watched as Koishi seemed confused by his name, his name was pretty strange but in his area it was common to hear such names. But he was in a different part of the galaxy so his name must have sounded weird to others.

Once Carnaelgaar was prepared to walk around the city, Koishi grabbed him by the hand and began to lead him around the city. She soon began to explain that the city was big and that lots of people sold stuff like animals. Carnaelgaar looked at the animal curiously, a...lion? That's what she called it. He has never seen such a creature before, in fact looking at the other animals he has never seen any of them before. "I have never seen animals like these before." He spoke as he examined every one of them.

Koishi's mind raced as she walked, her smaller hand gripping Carnaelgaar's hand tightly. As he spoke of the animals, she nodded to herself. "Yup yup! Lots of animals...Koishi can't read their minds anymore, but she used to! Animals had the funniest thoughts...ehehe..."

She blinked and thought to herself. "Uuumm...do you know people who can read mind like satori?...Or...ohh! Do you know any other satori?! Koishi and Satori have been looking for more buuut...we may be the only ones!"

Carnaelgaar chuckled when Koishi said that she could read animal minds. "I'm sure you heard many funny thoughts coming from a animal." He spoke as he studied another animal.

When Koishi asked Carnaelgaar if he could read minds, he turned to face her before speaking. "I have met many people that have the power to read minds, in fact I can read minds too. Its just one of the many things I can do, I can show you a demonstration of my mind reading if you want." He asked.

She stared now as he turned to face her, blinking at what was said...read her mind? Her confused expression twisted into a wide grin once more as she tilted her head to the side.

"Not even Satori can read Koishi's mind~ Or uhm...she can, but she says she hears nothing!" She nodded and her head moved to the other side. "Do you think you can hear Koishi's mind?" Koishi asked this, her hands placed behind her back now as she stared at him, curious once more though accompanied by a smile.

"I believe I can read your mind, unless you posses a strong mind and have some strong powers than it may be a little harder to enter your mind. I promise this will not hurt at all, so all you have to do is think of something that I can't guess and I will try my best to read your mind." Carnaelgaar spoke with a smile. It was a sincere smile, his mind reading would not put any strain on another person mind. It would have been close to planting yourself in another persons mind just to hear them talk.

She stared at the taller man for a moment, confused and tilting her head to one side. If he wanted to try entering her mind, she wouldn't resist or complain...and if he thought he could read her thoughts, that'd be great! Save that, she was skeptical if he could or not.

"Weeell...if you want to try, Koishi wouldn't mind! But...don't be surprised if it doesn't work~" Koishi nodded to him, grinning wide.

"Alright then, time for me to show you my mind reading technique." Carnaelgaar spoke as he began to channel his psycic power and tap into the warp. He soon entered the mind of Koishi, but he could not hear anything. "You are thinking of nothing... Am I correct?" He spoke.

Koishi tilted her head, then shook her head giggling. "Nu-uh!" Her thoughts had been focused on how weird his armor was, and that if the armor gave him the mind reading powers...or maybe it was an amulet or something! "Can you really not hear Koishi's mind? She can think of things..." She placed her hands behind her back, swaying back and forth.

"You are a strange one, you must have some type of power which prevents people from hearing your thoughts. That or perhaps I must be getting rusty. " Carnaelgaar spoke as he scratched the back of his head. "Just kidding, you are thinking if this armour of mines or some sort of amulet I have is allowing me to read your mind. It's all in the mind, knowledge is power of course." He chuckled as he joked around.

She stared at him for a moment, taken aback...she then gasped and took a step back with her hand raised to cover her mouth. "You...! You read Koishi's mind! Your mind reading must be a lot stronger than big sister's...! " Koishi would lower her hand and place it behind her again, swaying slower. "Huuummm...maybe it's because Koishi is trying to be noticed by people though~ That's usually the easiest."

She looked down to her third eye's missing 'cord' that was supposed to attach to her forehead, giving the missing area a small poke. It shuddered, and as did she. "Hmmm....Koishi misses reading minds...sometimes! But when she's unable to stop reading them, it's hard!"

Drawn by words that beget shining Ids a squat humanoid appears from an alley. In this new world's so many unknowns those that reflected the words of others were familiar. Overshadowed by a backpack more than its own size its wearer waddles closer. A humanoid clad in ruffling all-black clothes it looks crushed rather than short. Strange proportions and too wide for its height. The face below its hood resembles a human shape but the rough matte black surface that wavers like sandy dunes. Though a few feet away it squints to see light with which to identify the titles in whole. Other than compressed clothes that flap in nonexistent wind it says nothing at first. A direct if simple creature it readies in order the questions written since it arrived.

"Why has the underworks stopped? I cannot return to Myrkul's Vein.", it said to both unaware of its interruption.

Its hollow voice while placid lays under thick sandy noise. Intent listening for an answer it bent its head at the center not the neck. Such things unlikely for those with bones inside. The listening creature slowly gained height as it stood there, backpack shrinking, which leave the boneless mass soon apparent.
